Information for healthcare providers

What rights do patients have who come to Germany from other EU States for treatment? What must be borne in mind if you wish to issue a prescription to such persons, and how are the costs billed?

EU-PATIENTEN.DE is the non-competitive platform for providing information to patients and healthcare providers to answer questions all about cross-border healthcare. In accordance with the Patient Mobility Directive (EU Directive No. 24/2011), as the National Contact Point for cross-border healthcare in Germany, we operate closely with the National Contact Points in other EU States.

We are your port of call for the information you need in order to be able to bill for patients who are insured in other EU countries and what you need to bear in mind if a prescription of yours is to be filled in another EU country. We can also help you find out whether and how your patient’s treatment can be continued in another EU country, and what medical records are needed by the healthcare providers there.

We furthermore provide you with links to more information on the treatment of rare diseases as part of the European Reference Networks.
