The accessibility of hospitals for persons with disabilities

If you would like to know before you undergo hospital treatment in Germany whether both the equipment and the manner of construction and organisation of the hospital which you have selected will help you to cope with the daily routine in the hospital and ensure that you receive smooth medical treatment, you will find information on this below.

Accessibility to hospitals for people with a disability is the result of the removal of barriers in order to be able to enable those concerned to gain access to and take part in all areas of life as extensively as possible.

Amongst other things, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities also obliges Germany to enable people with disabilities to gain access to public facilities, as well as to new information and communication technologies. Amongst other things, hospitals are to be accessible to and useable by persons with disabilities without any particular obstacles, and as a matter of principle without the help of others. Information on accessibility can be found in item A-7 of the Quality Reports that are available on the hospitals’ websites. There are certainly aspects of accessibility which do not come up in the structured quality reports. We will be glad to help you if you have any difficulties when it comes to finding the information you need about the hospital which you have selected.

You will also find information about accessibility on various hospital search engines by clicking on the hospital in question.
